BADMINTON YOUNG OFFICIALS AWARD<br />

Introduction to officiating designed to equip the Young Official with the necessary<br />

skills and qualification to allow them to officiate at badminton events.<br />

UKCC LEVEL 1 AWARD IN COACHING BADMINTON<br />

The Badminton Young Official Award<br />

(YOA) is aimed at young people aged<br />

14-19 years. The Award is an introduction<br />

to officiating designed to equip the<br />

Young Official with the necessary skills<br />

and qualification that will allow them to<br />

officiate at badminton events.<br />

The course (mixture of theory and<br />

practical) is delivered by endorsed<br />

Badminton England tutors and covers<br />

the following content:<br />

• Scoring/Umpiring<br />

• The Laws of Badminton<br />

• Tournament Regulations<br />

• Service Judging<br />

• Line Judging<br />

• Match Control<br />

• Court Management<br />

• Health & Safety<br />

• Public Relations<br />

• Tournament Volunteering<br />

• Working as a part of a<br />

Management Team<br />

Upon completion of the course Young<br />

Officials will be offered the chance<br />

to be directly involved in supporting<br />

badminton competitions in order to<br />

gain the experience required to be<br />

certificated for the award. These include<br />

the National Schools Championships,<br />

Badminton England Circuit Events and a<br />

variety of other opportunities and events.<br />

Candidates will receive the following as part of the course fees:<br />

• Access to a range of supporting resources both online and throughout the course<br />

• Regulations for Tournaments<br />

• The Badminton Referee Resource<br />

• Plus on completion of the Award, YOA certification<br />

COSTING<br />

£250.00 8-12 candidates, 4 hour workshop<br />

£300.00 13-16 candidates, 4½ hour workshop<br />

The UKCC Level 1 is the entry point into the coaching world and qualifies the<br />

assistant coach to support the Level 2 coach during a coaching session. This<br />

support role might include observation of practice, feeding and group<br />

management, to allow the effective delivery of the planned coaching programme.<br />

By the end of the UKCC Level 1 Award<br />

in Coaching Badminton learners will be<br />

able to:<br />

• Understand the role and responsibilities<br />

of the coaching assistant<br />

• Understand the principles of hitting<br />

technique and provide an accurate<br />

demonstration<br />

• Understand the mechanical principles<br />

of movement and provide an accurate<br />

demonstration<br />

• Understand basic singles and doubles<br />

tactics and be able to communicate to<br />

their players<br />

• Assist with the delivery of badminton<br />

coaching sessions<br />

• Understand the principles of warm<br />

up and cool down and be able to<br />

plan and deliver them appropriately<br />

related to a coaching scenario<br />

• Understand and apply the basic<br />

underpinning knowledge related to<br />

the physical demands of badminton<br />

and the mechanics of movement<br />

• Understand and apply the main<br />

laws of badminton in support of the<br />

competitive situation<br />

• Assist with the review of badminton<br />

coaching sessions.<br />

3 DAY COURSE<br />

- 2 taught days and an assessment day.<br />
