Super roof for a Superstore
Bracknell Roofing played a lead role in the
construction of a multimillion pound ASDA
supermarket - completing the entire roof works
in just 14 weeks.
Roofing expertise and industry-leading
skills were deployed during the build of a new
superstore in Ware, Hertfordshire, with the
creation of a striking roof area spanning 3,200m 2 .
Appointed by MACE to carry out the works,
Bracknell Roofing’s team of experts from its
Special Projects Division worked closely with the
contractor to achieve the quality aesthetics that
the project demanded.

The roof build consisted of the development
of 2000m 2 of slated mansard roof, a 400m 2 tiled
lantern style roof and 800m 2 of new slating on an
existing building at the previously dis-used site,
which now serves as the back of house for the
main store.
500x250mm natural slates were specified to
create a striking design on the new mansard roof
and for the slating on the back of house area,
while Marley Eternit’s Acme Heather Blend - a
single camber clay tile, ideal for low pitch roofs
- were incorporated on the lantern roofs. An
insulated tile support panel system from Kingspan
was also incorporated into areas of the roof to
ensure a long-term weather proof solution.
As well as installing the entire roof covering,
Bracknell’s expert team installed the trussed
rafter structure, along with the UPVC fascia and
soffit and aluminium PPC rainwater gutters and
downpipes.
Due to the size of the project and the crucial
time-frame for the roof construction, Bracknell
had to overcome a number of logistical challenges
– not least ensuring the safety and productivity of
the 300 construction workers on site at any one
time and navigating heavy traffic around the site.
To ensure the delivery of a high quality roof on
time and to budget, Bracknell Roofing deployed
two specialist teams; one to focus on the trusses,
fascia, soffit and rainwater gutters and the other
to complete slating, tiling and the installation of
support panels.
Innovative rooftop for cuttingedge
building
Bracknell Roofing played an instrumental role
as the flat roofing specialist in the installation
of the first hot melt flat roofing system to be
manufactured in the UK.
The innovative project was undertaken at 2
Glass Wharf, a cutting-edge commercial building
located on the waterside in the heart of the city
centre, and saw the Bracknell team install the IKO
Permatec Hot Melt system.
The system provided the stunning structure
with a modern high performing roof and is the
only waterproofing solution designed specifically
for a roof with zero falls.
Bracknell’s dedicated flat roofing team was
chosen for the complex installation due to its indepth
knowledge and many years’ experience in
the area.
Taking care of the roof
Bracknell Roofing’s skills and industry-leading
expertise were put to good use during the
construction of a major new nursing home in Port
Sunlight, on the Wirral in Merseyside.
The completed development, which will
cater for elderly and ill residents, offers a clear
illustration of how traditional materials, modern
building design and proven skills can combine to
produce an outstanding roofing solution.
Working under the direction of main
contractors, Seddon Construction, Bracknell
Roofing delivered a traditional plain clay tiled roof
finish to complement the overall architectural
design of the care home, and help the structure
to blend seamlessly with its surroundings.

Decent homes for welsh residents
Bracknell Roofing was awarded a contract to carry
out work on Vale of Glamorgan Council Decent
Homes’ properties in South Wales.
It was initially commissioned to replace roof
coverings, roofline, insulation and guttering on
around 50 homes. Following successful completion
of initial phases, a large number of additional
properties were included on Bracknell’s schedule.
Logistically this was a challenging project
because it had to avoid causing any inconvenience
for the local school, whilst minimising disruption
to residents, who remained in their homes during
the work. Its experience of these types of projects
allowed it to put together a detailed schedule for
Vale of Glamorgan Council, while meeting the strict
site requirements.
