Do you have a favourite scent? Aromas always invoke memories,
like the flowers from your first date, or the smell of your beloved
dog. This is because the human sense of smell sends signals
directly to the brain, where it is immediately turned into memories.
For instance, when you think of the rain, you may think of the
smell of wet soil and remember sitting beside the window as a child.
Smells can also create calming or energetic emotions. For
example, the smell of kaffir lime induces freshness, rose helps
with relaxation, and jasmine makes you more comfortable. Some
scents are so seductive that they make you follow the source as
if you were spellbound. That’s why modern chemists and culinary
experts have created a variety of new aromas.
