ภาพลุงป้าน้าอานั่งแกะเทียนกันอย่างตั้งใจ
ท่ามกลางเสียงเพลงพื้นบ้านเรียกความครึกครื้น
มีอาหารน้ำาดื่มที่ญาติโยมเอามาบริจาคพร้อม
สรรพ ตัดภาพไปในตัวเมือง เด็กนักศึกษาเอา
แผ่นเทียนพิมพ์แล้วมาจากที่วัด นั่งตัดแล้วตก
เย็นเอางานที่ทำาเสร็จกลับไปส่งคืนที่วัด จะมี
ที่ไหนที่มีจิตอาสาเป็นอันหนึ่งอันเดียวกันได้
อย่างนี้
“ร้อนแต่ก็อยากเป็นนางฟ้านี่ (ยิ้ม) ทำาแล้ว
มันติดนะ มาตั้งแต่เช้า กลับนี่ไม่มีกำาหนด ว่างๆ
ก็เชิญมานั่งทำาได้นะคะ มันเพลิ้น..เพลิน” เสียง
พี่ๆ อาสาพูดพร้อมรอยยิ้ม ในขณะที่อาจารย์
สมคิดยิ้มแล้วเล่าต่อว่า
“งบประมาณส่วนหนึ่งมาจากส่วนกลาง
สนับสนุนแต่ไม่พอ ชาวบ้านต้องอาสาสละปัจจัย
และแรงตามกำาลังศรัทธา เราทำากันเอง ไม่ได้
จ้างช่าง กว่าจะได้แต่ละชิ้น แต่ละตัวละคร
ระดมกัน พวกทำางานกลางวัน พระเณร บ่ายๆ
ก็ไปเรียนหนังสือ กลางคืนก็มาช่วยกันพิมพ์ลาย
คอยพรมน้ำาให้ขี้ผึ้งไม่ละลายติดกัน แม้แต่เจ้า
อาวาสก็ลงมาช่วยตัดลายตามพิมพ์ หายากครับ
เวลาไปส่งเทียน ชาวบ้านจะฟ้อนรำาจากวัด
เข้าไป ถ้าได้รับรางวัลก็จะตั้งโชว์อยู่ที่เทศบาล
2- 3 วัน บางชุมชนเขากลับวัดมาถวายเทียน
เลย แต่ชุมชนเราร่วมแรงร่วมใจกันแล้วก็ต้องมา
รวมกันที่นี่อีกครั้งเพื่อทำาบุญถวายเทียนร่วมกัน
ก็อิ่มเอิบใจ
เราทำางานเพื่อถ่ายทอด เผยแพร่วัฒนธรรม
ประเพณีของชาวอุบลฯให้คนต่างจังหวัด ต่างชาติ
ได้รู้จัก เรื่องรางวัลเป็นเรื่องรอง สำาคัญที่งบ
สนับสนุนเพราะบางวัดไม่มีงบ ก็ต้องเลิกราไป
น่าเสียดาย เราต้องการขยายเรื่องนับถือศาสนา
เพราะหลักของศาสนาพุทธมีแก่นสอน
พระพุทธเจ้าไม่ได้ช่วยเรา เราต้องทำาความ
ดีเอง ละเว้นความชั่ว ทำาจิตใจให้ผ่องใส
สิ่งที่ได้คือความสมัครสมานสามัคคีเป็นหลัก
ความกลมเกลียว เป็นอันหนึ่งอันเดียวกัน”
แรงศรัทธาและน้ำาใจของคนในชุมชน ทำาให้
ความสดใสในทุกแววตา..สว่างไสวไม่แพ้แสง
เทียนใดๆ เลย

There are people carving candles
together while jovial folk songs play.
Food and water is donated by locals
and children trim sheets of wax for
fun. “It’s hot but we still want to help
here, when you keep doing it, it’s
almost addictive. You forget about other
things,” says a volunteer. At the same
time Ajarn Somkid continues to speak.
“Part of the budget comes from
public support, but it’s not enough.
Locals have to volunteer for this to be
successful. We do it all ourselves.
Some people go to school in the
afternoons and then come here at
night to work together. They help
sprinkle water over the candles so the
wax doesn’t stick together or cut out
patterns. Even the temple’s abbot
helps. It’s a very special collaboration.
When it’s time to turn in the
candles, we all go to the temple. If we
win, the candle will be displayed for 2
– 3 days. Since we did this together
we have to return here and offer the
candle as a group. It’s a happy event.
We work to convey cultural traditions
in Ubon Ratchathani province to
others. The award aspect is secondary.
The important thing is that we
have support, because some temples
don’t and they have to stop making
candles. I find this very sad. The
Buddha teaches us that no one can
help us but ourselves. We have to do
good, avoid evil and keep our minds
clear. Solidarity and unity will prevail.
The faith and generosity of this
community can be seen in everyone’s
eyes, and it shines as bright as these
candles.”
