Conference examined a
host of robotic options

Belgium’s Brouwerij Martens
introduced bottles of its premium
beer in 32 country-specific bottle
designs onto the French market for
the soccer World Cup with Direct
Print Powered by KHS.
Various images of the
participating nations have been
printed straight onto the PET
bottles using the technology which
the brewery was the first to use
a prototype of back in 2015.
The equipment allows
individual bottles, in batches of
one or allows manufacturers to
implement special marketing
campaigns quickly, says KHS.

With a combination
of speakers and
demonstrations,
OAL, the University of Lincoln
and ABB Robotics educated
representatives from over
30 food manufacturing
businesses on how the use
of robotics and automation
can overcome their
manufacturing challenges.
The Food Manufacturing
2030 conference was held
at the National Centre for
Food Manufacturing in May
and saw OAL demonstrate its
APRIL robotics flexible food
manufacturing platform;
Version eight of BRC Global
Food Safety Standard is
released this August and
companies will be audited
against these new standards
from February 2019.
Campden BRI is running
four BRC v8 briefing seminars
this autumn on the following
Chris Brett from Ocado
technology sharing how the
company is transforming
food retailing with digital
technologies; Steve Sanders
explaining how JSP Safety
Products had transformed
its manufacturing processes
by using 30 robots, and Mike
Wilson from ABB discussing
best practices in robot adoption.
During the day, the need
for demonstrators and
funding was raised. These
areas were addressed by
Liz Berry from the Food and
Drink Federation and Val
Braybrooks, Dean of Holbeach
Campus. Berry outlined the
latest funding opportunities
for food companies while
Braybrooks encouraged food
manufacturers to consider
working with academia
to explore and trial these
new technologies.

to help the manufacturer to
achieve electrical safety test
compliance first time.
