Fuji’s new box motion<br />
Alpha 8 wrapper has<br />
just been installed into<br />
a water purification tablet<br />
supplier to meet the need for<br />
a larger pack size to overcome<br />
any issues <strong>with</strong> safety for<br />
young c<strong>hi</strong>ldren.<br />
The customer approached<br />
Fuji’s UK distributor<br />
Paramount Packaging as it<br />
was looking for alternative<br />
options to wrap its 3.25g<br />
and 11.9g water purification<br />
tablets. It wanted to continue<br />
to use paper and aluminium<br />
foil packaging but wanted<br />
them to be hermetically<br />
sealed and packed at speeds<br />
of 200 a minute. In operation,<br />
the Alpha 8 can produce up<br />
to 400 a minute.<br />
It also wanted the packs<br />
to be larger than normal, so<br />
they didn’t look like sweets<br />
to c<strong>hi</strong>ldren, w<strong>hi</strong>ch can be an<br />
issue for some flow wrappers<br />
but was overcome easily by<br />
Fuji’s advanced film tracking<br />
and tension control.<br />
FAST HERMETIC SEALS<br />
Paramount recommended<br />
its new Alpha 8 wrapper to<br />
ac<strong>hi</strong>eve the hermetic seals<br />
at the required speeds<br />
and also, fully automated<br />
product feeding <strong>with</strong> a<br />
vibratory bowl feeder.<br />
T<strong>hi</strong>s feeder orientates the<br />
tablets into a single-file line<br />
to ensure a continuous stream<br />
of product is fed onto the<br />
in-line belt feeder.<br />
In t<strong>hi</strong>s way, products that<br />
are touc<strong>hi</strong>ng or irregularly<br />
spaced are automatically<br />
synchronised in time <strong>with</strong> the<br />
operation of the jaws and fed<br />
onto the film.<br />
The system consists of two<br />
belts – a pre-feed and timing<br />
conveyor – w<strong>hi</strong>ch can be<br />
removed easily for cleaning.<br />
