Latest labeller offers reliable
and versatile options at speed
ACHEMA 2018
presented nearly
4,000 exhibitors
ACHEMA 2018 closed its doors at
4pm on June 15, having played host
to 3,800 exhibitors and 167,000
participants from more than 100
countries. The Frankfurt exhibition
bills itself as the global centre of
process industries and the event
reflected the positive trends seen in
chemicals and several other sectors.
“We see significant growth
in some exhibition fields such
as automation, pharmaceutical,
packaging and storage
technologies, but also in the
mechanical processes group,”
explains Dr Thomas Scheuring,
CEO of organiser DECHEMA.
Digitisation dominated many
sectors including laboratory
equipment, plant engineering,
packaging and logistics.
PPMA members were well
represented at the show and
here, and on the following spread,
we highlight just some of the
products that were demonstrated
throughout the five days.
The new BL A525 CW
labeller belongs to the
extensive BL A range
of versatile and reliable
carton tracking and labelling
machines from Marchesini
and the machine showcased
at ACHEMA 2018 also included
a high speed load cell.
After installing it on the
BL A420, this load cell has
also now been installed on
the 525 model for the first
time, thus boosting the unit’s
versatility and performance
even further, says the company.
The end result is a high-tech
machine capable of weighing,
serialising and labelling
cartons to give them their
unique identity, as requested
by current market demands.
On the BL A525 CW, the load
cell is fully integrated into the
step conveyance system and
can weigh each individual
carton at very high production
speeds. This system is much
more compact than the classic
solution (where the weighing
unit is positioned in line).

Several live demonstrations were seen on the Marchesini stand at the show
of the BL A525 CW, this unit
is able to identify the position
and weight of the individual
cartons at any time. If correct,
the product moves onto the
following stations for tracking,
labelling and sealing and
the carton is transferred to
the machine downstream;
if they are not correct, the
carton does not move onto
the following phases but is
rejected according to the
‘Fail Safe’ logic.
A patented timing device
sets the cartons at the correct
distance apart on the two
toothed belts that can be
adjusted according to the
length of the cartons.

Flow wrapper gives gains for
pharma and healthcare sector
At ACHEMA, Schubert-Pharma
presented a cross-section
of its packaging solutions
for the pharmaceutical and
healthcare industry. For the
first time, visitors saw the latest
generation of the Flowmodul
flow wrapping unit in action,
packing BFS ampoules into
flow packs. The company
also presented its portfolio of
engineering services.
On the TLM packaging
machine demonstrated,
high barrier films were used
to protect pharmaceutical
products from environmental
factors. Various sealing
processes can be used with
the unit while thermal and
ultrasonic sealing are offered.
The Flowmodul offers
manufacturers a compact,
high-performance machine
with a high degree of
flexibility, says Schubert-
Pharma. The unit has a fully
automatic carrier change with
replaceable cassettes for other
formats.
