Lenze’s Uwe Keiter was speaking
The standard was initially
set up by a group of end users,
including Nestlé, P&G and
Unilever, to initiate a way of
making machines talk to each
other easier along a production
line comprising lots of kit.
“Fifteen years ago, software
developments were like the
Wild West with no consistency
between machines, even
the same type of machines,”
said Keiter. “This is why the
overall challenge of integration
costs has been addressed by
the standard.”
Attendees heard that at
machine level, the benefits
of using Pack ML include
increased interfacing and
overall equipment effectiveness
while total cost of ownership
goes down. One end user
believes that from the first idea
to full scale production has
been 3-4 months quicker by
using the standard. It also
offers benefits for OEMs and
system integrators.
