We use it to release shame and trauma or to amplify and expand pleasure and orgasmic potential. It’s a practice. Meant to be life-long, deepened over time and sustainable. It’s NOT a quick fix. It’s something you do for 5-30 minutes several times a week (3-4x is my recommendation, unless daily feels good — listen to your body!) with focus and intention using different movements with your pelvic floor muscles and the string to build strength, tone the vaginal walls and create more dexterity, blood flow, sensation and lubrication. It’s a deep tissue massage, yoga practice and orgasmic meditation all in one! Un-drilled refers to an egg that has no holes drilled in it, which means you must rely on your own body and vaginal muscles for releasing and removing the egg, which can be a powerful exercise in trust, surrender and femininity in your body. You can purchase either egg for your practice and I invite you to weigh the options for what works best for your body. I always recommend for women who want to have a regular jade egg practice to use a drilled egg so they can use string for exercises or removal (while they’re training their muscles to push/birth the jade egg down and out). HOW TO STRING YOUR JADE EGG: For your drilled jade egg (I recommend medium, drilled) you can use thread, silk string or even unflavored unwaxed floss. ‣ Measure the right length — usually your entire arm’s length — to insert through the hole of the egg to the other side of the egg through the opposite hole. ‣ The wide end is the part you insert into your vagina. ‣ Pull the string through the hole so that the egg is in the center of the string and there are equal amounts of string on either side. ‣ Tie a double knot right right on top of the jade egg.
‣ You can also tie a knot with the loose ends so it’s easier to grasp. There are other ways to string/knot it, but this is my favorite so play around with it! ‣ If the string happens to come out during your practice, not to worry, you can see more on birthing the egg out naturally in a coming section. ‣ If you need to, cut the string so that there is about 6-7 inches of string that you can use to pull or guide the egg out with. You can always trim it if it seems too long for your liking. CLEANSING YOUR JADE EGG BEFORE & AFTER USE There are a several methods for cleansing your jade egg for the first time and whenever you feel like it needs to be thoroughly cleansed afterwards. Here are some popular options: • Place your jade egg in a heatproof bowl or dish. Boil a small pot of water, remove from heat, pour the hot water over your jade egg into the dish and let it soak for 5-10 minutes. Make sure to remove with tongs or something that will prevent you from getting burned by the egg. Allow it to cool for an hour before use. You can also use this method to warm your jade egg up for use — just make sure it’s warm, NOT hot, before inserting into your vagina. The warmth can be extra yummy! • Hot or warm water with a few drops each of tea tree oil and lavender essential oil (both organic). • Soak it in a dish of water with pink Himalayan salt overnight. • Cleanse your egg under a full moon (energetically and spiritually). • Cleanse your egg with sage, palo santo or other smudge herbs, which is great to do on the new and full moon each month. Or whenever you feel as though your egg needs to let go of some old energy. • Cleanse your egg with natural soap (I love castile soap by Dr. Bronner’s in lavender or rose hemp scent) or just hot water in between each use. Use your own judgement here.
