Prime Media : Faites-vous une distinction entre
l’architecture d’intérieur et la décoration ?
Bruno Decorte : Pour l’architecture d’intérieur, on
intervient pendant la construction tandis que la
décoration consiste surtout à embellir et à aménager
une fois la construction achevée. Mais la création est le
point commun entre ces deux spécialités.
Prime Media : Do you distinguish between interior
architecture and decoration?
Bruno Decorte : Regarding the first, one intervenes
during the construction, while the second activity
consists mainly in embellishing and arranging once the
construction is completed. But creation is the common
point between these two specialties.
Prime Media : Quel est votre point de vue sur l’évolution
du métier d’architecte à Madagascar ?
Bruno Decorte : Madagascar est un eldorado pour
l’architecture ! Il faut regarder la nature, la préserver et y
puiser nos sources d’inspiration. On importe beaucoup
de nouveaux matériaux, mais je suis partisan de
travailler en priorité avec les matériaux renouvelables. Il
faut savoir se fondre dans la nature.

« Madagascar est un
eldorado pour l’architecture »
Ancien mécanicien avion devenu architecte
par amour des beaux espaces, Bruno Decorte a
réalisé de nombreux chantiers. Installé dans la
région sud-ouest dont il apprécie le climat et la
température, Bruno Decorte a une passion pour
l’Afrique, souvenir de son enfance au Congo.
"Madagascar is an
Eldorado for Architecture"
As a former aircraft mechanic, who became an
architect due to his love for beautiful spaces, Bruno
Decorte has completed many projects. Living in the
south-west region where he prefers the climate and
temperature, Bruno Decorte has retained a passion
for Africa, a memory of his childhood in the Congo.
Prime Media : What is your point of view on the
evolution of the architect's job in Madagascar?
Bruno Decorte : Madagascar is an Eldorado for
architecture! We must look at nature, preserve it and take
it as our source of inspiration. While we are importing
a lot of new materials, I am in favour of working with
renewable materials first and foremost. You have to
know how to blend in with nature.
Prime Media : Pouvez-vous nous parler de la stèle
« Tropique du Capricorne » que vous avez construite en
2015 ?
Bruno Decorte : La stèle s’inspire d'un monument en
Uganda et il me semblait important que soit matérialisé
sur la Grande-Île un espace en référence au tropique du
Capricorne. Cette stèle est à dimension humaine, les
cornes de zébu rappellent le sud-ouest de Madagascar.
Chaque projet est pour moi une découverte et me
projette dans le futur.
Prime : Can you tell us about the "Tropic of Capricorn"
stele (stone sculpture) that you built in 2015?
Bruno Decorte : This 'stele' is inspired by a monument
in Uganda hence it seemed important to me to create
on the Big Island an object of reference to the Tropic of
Capricorn. This 'stele' has a human dimension, the zebu
horns are a reference to south-west Madagascar. Each
project is a discovery for me and throws me into the
future.
