2026 FIFA World Cup Stadium Mexico City<br />

Estadio Azteca<br />

One of the most famous and iconic football stadiums<br />

in the world, Estadio Azteca is the largest stadium in<br />

Mexico and the official home of the Mexican National<br />

Team, who have played over 70 matches there. It is one<br />

of only two venues in the world to have hosted two FIFA<br />

World Cup finals (1970 and 1986), and is the stage for<br />

some of the most famous FIFA World Cup goals of all<br />

time. Originally constructed in 1966, the stadium has<br />

recorded audiences of over 107,000 for football and<br />

132,000 for boxing in the past. The Stadium is nicknamed<br />

“El Coloso de Santa Ursula” <strong>–</strong> Colossus of Saint Ursula,<br />

where it is located in the suburbs of Mexico City.<br />

In 2015, a vast renovation plan was undertaken with the<br />

completion of the project coincide with the stadium’s 50th<br />

anniversary in 2016, as well as the additional construction of a<br />

commercial hub outside the stadium to be completed in 2019.<br />
