8.1 Situational analysis<br />
SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS<br />
To promote a scientifically literate and engaged society, the <strong>NRF</strong> is mandated to entrench science engagement<br />
throughout the organisation, the NSI, and within the broader society.<br />
Programme 2 conceptualises, implements, and coordinates initiatives towards the integration of natural<br />
sciences, engineering, social sciences, and humanities into society in order to enhance appreciation of its<br />
critical role in national prosperity and sustainable development, as well as to promote interest and study in<br />
such fields while engaging critically with society.<br />

SAASTA RISA National Research Facilities<br />
SAASTA is the national<br />
coordinating unit for the science<br />
engagement strategy.<br />
RISA engages with and<br />
communicates sectoral science<br />
and technology strategy and<br />
policy.<br />

mandated to support disciplinespecific<br />
knowledge dissemination<br />
to their stakeholder communities<br />
and the public at large through<br />
access, collaboration and<br />
community outreach initiatives.<br />
