Changing Times
Familiar Challenges
September marks a major change in policing for the people of Norden.
After over eleven years of dedicated and exceptional service to our community,
PSCO Nick Haile is being redeployed to Castleton. We all wish him well with
his new venture; I am sure that all villagers thank him for his superb efforts in
keeping Norden a safe place to live and work.
Nick will be replaced by PCSO Tracey Tynan from Thursday 13th September.
If the face of policing in our area has changed, the approaching winter brings
familiar challenges and the need to revisit familiar advice. Not all crime is
avoidable but we can make it more difficult for opportunists to profit when we
forget simple precautions;
• If you are leaving your house unattended, even for a few days,
cancel milk papers and other regular deliveries.
• It is helpful to put lights on timers and consider leaving a radio
or television on if your house is empty, particularly at night.
• Secure the perimeter of your dwelling, including sheds and other
outbuildings.
• Make sure that vehicles are securely locked at all times and that
valuable items are removed or hidden from view.
• Ensure that windows and doors are secured before leaving your
home unattended, even for short periods.
• If you vehicle is keyless, consider putting the proximity device in
a tin overnight to thwart scanning by criminals.
Following this advice may help make the coming months quieter
for residents and PCSO Tynan alike.
