#WALK1000MILES2019
‘All thanks to
the NHS and
#walk1000miles’
In 2016 I was diagnosed with bowel
and liver cancer. After surgery and
chemotherapy I could hardly walk to the
end of the garden without taking a rest.
Two years later I now walk non-stop a
minimum of six miles each and every day.
On longer days I am happy to walk 15-20
miles and will enjoy every step. I am now
in my 70th year and my life has never
been happier or healthier. None of this
would have been possible without the
marvellous NHS, Country Walking
magazine and the #walk1000miles
challenge. So it’s a big thank you from me and to all those doubters, I say,
“Give it a try – onwards and upwards, and it needn’t cost you a penny”.
‘Walking has completely changed my life.
Last year I used
a four-wheeled
walker to walk due
to fibromyalgia.
This year I walked
1000 miles on my
own two feet by the
end of August, by
building up from
regular mini walks.
The furthest I ended
up doing was just
over 20 miles. It felt
like such a massive
achievement!
spend Sundays together on great big walks.
