walk1000miles
uWalk an average of 2.74
miles a day in 12 months.
Today is a perfect time to start.
What happens next takes
care of itself. You make friends
and share discoveries and
delights; you see yourself in
print perhaps and feel a giddy
glee; you smile a bit more,
sleep a bit better and start
having naughty thoughts
about outdoor gear. You get
complimented, wear a badge
for the first time since you
were six and enjoy rain.
It’s weird.
I’VE ONLY JUST
Q
SEEN THIS – AM I
TOO LATE TO START?
Never. The challenge is to
walk 1000 miles in 12 months
from the day you start.
You can log your miles and
check your required daily
average at any time at
www.walk1000miles.co.uk.
HOW DO
Q
I RECORD
MY MILES?
First, decide what miles
you’re going to count: if
you’re just starting out and
have a way to go with your
fitness, count every step
of every day. If you want
a stretch, only count extra
walks you wouldn’t have done
in the normal course of life
(recommended). If you really want to push yourself, count
only boots-on miles – only ‘proper’ walks in the countryside.
Next, track your daily miles using a fitness tracker (there’s one
free with a Country Walking subscription right now), an app
or your phone or by referring to a map. Now the fun bit: fill
each day’s total in on your Progress Chart (free with Country
Walking) and watch your miles build; tap your totals into our
online Mileage Logger at www.walk1000miles.co.uk to get
instant target averages and to contribute to the community’s
overall mile-haul!
