‘Take their
curiosity
for a
wander’
My fitness levels have
increased, I don’t get out
of breath after a flight of stairs now, I feel
generally more motivated and I do more outdoor
activities with my children. When I started I wasn’t
sure it was actually achievable, now I’m hoping the
increased activity my children have seen in me this
year will inspire them to be more active, and to
gain a love of going for a mooch, just because
they can. To take their natural curiosity literally
for wander, and investigate their surroundings
– knowing that no matter how familiar they are,
there’s always something new to see or
experience, is just the best.
‘We had a medal ceremony’
I’ve realised how far I walk when I go to and
from school and I’ve enjoyed walking more.
When I’d done it we had a medal ceremony
just like at the Olympics! It was amazing!
I wish I’d known how really proud of
yourself you feel when you’re finished.
I enjoy walking more because I know that
I’m counting how many miles I can walk in a
year. And I’ll never forget doing the Fairfield
Horseshoe when we were on holiday!
‘A bit of a miracle’
For the last four years my daughter Faith has been
bullied at school about her weight, which is now
coming off as she partakes in many travels with me.
The bullying made her a little reclusive, then to add
injury to insult, she was knocked down by someone
texting and driving. This accident caused her
many weeks of recovery laid up at home nursing
countless cuts, bruises and scrapes, but the mental
impact was worse. Until I started this, Faith didn’t
want to step a foot outside but now she’s eager
to join me on every walk she can. It’s really helped
her turn a massive corner. Thanks a million –
#walk1000miles has been a bit of a miracle.
