接 受 我 們 採 訪 時 ,Chantal 正 在 去 工 作 的 路
上 , 她 最 近 剛 製 作 了 一 部 電 影 。 在 Chantal 的 職 業
生 涯 早 期 , 她 是 一 位 成 功 的 流 行 歌 手 , 曾 獲 得 過
加 拿 大 朱 諾 音 樂 成 就 獎 最 有 前 途 女 歌 手 的 提 名 。
不 過 真 正 讓 Chantal 名 聲 大 噪 的 是 她 在 2006 年 時
一 項 大 膽 的 營 銷 舉 措 。 她 以 1 加 元 的 價 格 在 加 拿
大 的 一 元 店 內 獨 立 發 行 了 單 曲 《Feels Like Love》,
同 時 配 合 多 倫 多 地 鐵 站 內 大 量 的 廣 告 宣 傳 , 結 果
這 首 單 曲 達 到 了 驚 人 的 白 金 銷 量 。 此 後 Chantal 又
轉 戰 影 視 界 , 她 的 兒 子 Harley Chamandy 也 繼 承 了
母 親 的 演 藝 基 因 , 成 為 了 一 名 演 員 。Chantal 現 在 製
作 的 這 部 影 片 正 是 她 兒 子 參 演 的 。
Chantal 告 訴 我 們 , 她 給 兒 子 Harley 在 家 中 打
造 了 一 處 舞 臺 , 讓 他 可 以 上 演 戲 劇 表 演 。 這 座 宅
邸 和 舞 臺 剛 建 成 時 Harley 才 10 歲 , 如 今 他 已 經 19

來 。「 這 是 一 整 套 的 工 作 。」 當 然 少 不 了 專 業 人 士
Richard 的 幫 助 。「 我 剛 開 始 給 Richard 打 電 話 時 ,
並 不 知 道 他 是 魁 北 克 人 。」Chantal 笑 稱 這 是 一 個
奇 妙 的 巧 合 , 在 此 之 前 她 只 知 道 Richard 是 著 名 設
計 師 , 公 司 在 洛 杉 磯 , 曾 為 許 多 名 人 打 造 過 宅 邸 。

“I pictured what it would have been like to
live in an era where all the fabrics were very
lush and dark,” says Chantal Chamandy, the
home’s owner and interior decorator. Her
overarching vision was to have a colourful
home — no beige-based palettes here — full of
cozy nooks. “I wanted to be able to put my feet
up anywhere,” she says.
She’s in her car as we speak, on her way to the
set of a film she’s producing. Chamandy’s performing
career started with pop-music success
in her teens, including a Juno nomination for
most promising female vocalist.
After a long hiatus from the music world,
she made a comeback in 2006 with a bold ad
campaign — her image became ubiquitous in
Toronto subways. She independently released
her single “Feels Like Love” by selling it for $1
in dollar stores, an unconventional marketing
move that paid off. It went platinum.
Chamandy is also an actress and has produced
films, including Hit by Lightning (2014),
starring Jon Cryer and Will Sasso. Her son,
Harley Chamandy, got the artistic gene too,
and it’s his film that she’s now producing.
Building a stage and set
Harley had a space in the family home to stage
theatre performances growing up (he’s now
19, and the home was built when he was 10).
A stage with draw curtains makes the movie
room double as a theatre. The walls are covered
in brown velvet, good for acoustics and also for
creating a warm atmosphere.
The process of designing her home was like
“building a set,” Chamandy says. She didn’t
have formal interior-design training, but she
drew on her experience and creativity as a
performing artist to create a different scene in
each room.
Before she built the “set,” however, she had
architect Richard Landry build the “stage.”
Landry grew up in a small town only a couple
hours’ drive from Mont Tremblant. Chamandy
had no idea Landry was a Québec native when
she called him. He’s based in LA and is known
for his celebrity clientele, who have included
Mark Wahlberg, Eddie Murphy, and Wayne
Gretzky.
When Landry moved to LA in the 1980s, he
had neither job nor U.S. work visa. Through
