Sp<strong>and</strong>emager, who afterwards became Pastor of<br />
Lund, <strong>in</strong> Schonen, <strong>and</strong> who "labored assiduously<br />
for more than thirty years <strong>in</strong> the v<strong>in</strong>eyard of the<br />
Lord,"[6] translated several of the sacred hymns of<br />
Germany <strong>in</strong>to the tongue of the people, which,<br />
be<strong>in</strong>g pr<strong>in</strong>ted <strong>and</strong> published, at Malmoe, formed<br />
the first hymn-book of the Reformed Church of<br />
<strong>Denmark</strong>.<br />
By-<strong>and</strong>-by there came a still nobler hymnbook.<br />
Francis Wormord, of Amsterdam, the first<br />
Protestant Bishop of Lund, was orig<strong>in</strong>ally a<br />
Carmelite monk. Dur<strong>in</strong>g his residence <strong>in</strong> the<br />
monastery of Copenhagen or of Hels<strong>in</strong>gborg, for it<br />
is uncerta<strong>in</strong> which, led by love of the truth, he<br />
translated the Psalms of David <strong>in</strong>to the Danish<br />
tongue. The task was executed jo<strong>in</strong>tly by himself<br />
<strong>and</strong> Paul Elia, for, be<strong>in</strong>g a native of Holl<strong>and</strong>,<br />
Wormord was but imperfectly master of the Danish<br />
idiom, <strong>and</strong> gladly availed himself of the help of<br />
another. The book was published <strong>in</strong> 1528, "with the<br />
favor <strong>and</strong> privilege of the k<strong>in</strong>g."[7] The publication<br />
