The Pastor of Prali, M. Leidet, a s<strong>in</strong>gularly pious<br />

man, had been discovered by <strong>the</strong> soldiers as he was<br />

pray<strong>in</strong>g under a rock, and be<strong>in</strong>g dragged forth, he<br />

was first tortured and mutilated, and <strong>the</strong>n hanged;<br />

his last words be<strong>in</strong>g, "Lord Jesus, receive my<br />

spirit." It was surely appropriate, after <strong>the</strong> silence<br />

of three years and a half, dur<strong>in</strong>g which <strong>the</strong> rage of<br />

<strong>the</strong> persecutor had forbidden <strong>the</strong> preach<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong><br />

glorious Gospel, that its reopen<strong>in</strong>g should take<br />

place <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> pulpit of <strong>the</strong> martyr Leidet.<br />
