If you care more about the nature and
sightseeing than spending your vacation on
the beach, I’d recommend visiting Croatia
in April and May, during springtime, as the
nature is blooming everywhere!
What advice would you give to tourists
when dealing with locals?
As a language and travel enthusiast myself,
my first advice is always to learn the basic
words in the language of the country
where you’re going! That is so simple and
easy to do, and it opens so many doors
and the locals will stop seeing you just as
a passing tourist and start seeing you as a
person who has a deeper appreciation of
their country. Naturally, they will feel your
friendliness and enthusiasm and will treat
you with even more hospitality, so you will
get an “insider” experience of Croatia! I
teach Croatian language online, so make
sure to contact me if you’d like to learn
some Croatian! Other than that, be friendly
and patient, as sometimes Croatian people
tend to be stubborn and grumpy (but
usually not towards tourists). It’s always
good to prepare yourself on time, so watch
my videos to find out all about Croatia, it’s
currency and similar things important for
tourists.
One thing that isn’t very well known
is Croatian cuisine, what is a typical
Croatian dish?
If you are coming to the coast, you must try
fish and seafood, it’s amazing, tasty and so
fresh! There is a large variety of seafood,
fish, shrimp and shells with pasta, rice or
gnocchi. As a seaside dish, I would mention
dagnje na buzaru.
Croatia has excellent quality of meat
and cheese, too. You should try some
prosciutto, with sheep cheese, olives and
olive oil.
Typical meat dishes are also: čevapčići,
ražnjići, sarma and gulaš. For desserts I’d
recommend štrukli, fritule, međimurska
gibanica, rožata.
What does the future hold for
Croatian Experience with Sanda?
The future is very bright for Croatian
Experience with Sanda, as bright as
the Croatian summer sunshine! I have
a great enthusiasm for my project and
am putting up the website for making
information more presentable and
easier to find. I plan to expand and
reach more people with quality
content.
People who want to get more
involved can support me on Patreon,
where they will get more insider
information and exclusive content
such as live Q&A’s.
I believe that people need to be
connected by travelling to countries
where they haven’t been yet, to
learn about each other’s customs,
language and culture. Everybody
gains - the visitors broaden their own
life experience and knowledge, as do
the locals who host them.
I believe that communication via
internet, social platforms and travel
enable us to be closer than we could
have ever imagined, to appreciate
and together take care of this
wonderful planet we all live on.
