Jennifer Peel, MPH, PhD<br />

Concentration at ColoradoSPH at CSU: Epidemiology<br />

Dr. Peel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental and<br />

Radiological Health Sciences at CSU and in the Department of Epidemiology<br />

in the Colorado School of Public Health. Her active collaborative research<br />

includes projects examining the short-term exposures and health impacts<br />

experienced during commuting in Fort Collins; evaluating the cardiovascular, respiratory, and<br />

adverse birth outcomes in relation to air pollution in Colorado; investigating cardiovascular and<br />

metabolic-related endpoints in relation to exposure to biomass emissions in Honduras; and<br />

engaging stakeholders and identifying research needs regarding energy and air pollution in<br />

Colorado.<br />

Anita Pena, PhD<br />

Disparities<br />

Dr. Anita Alves Pena is Associate Professor and Interim Chair of the<br />

Department of Economics at CSU and in the Department of Environmental and Occupational<br />

Health in the Colorado School of Public Health. Her research interests are in public sector<br />

economics, labor economics, and economic development and her current research relates to<br />

undocumented and documented immigration, public policy, poverty, and agricultural labor<br />

markets. In the realm of health and safety research, Dr. Pena recently has studied<br />

determinants of self-reported diagnosed health conditions, of farmwork-related injuries, and<br />

of exposure to health-related risks such as those associated with pesticides and with poor<br />

sanitation practice affecting U.S. hired farmworkers both nationally and regionally. She also<br />

has examined issues pertaining to workers’ compensation policy and return to work practice<br />

after illness and injury in agriculture from an economic perspective. Be<strong>for</strong>e her appointment as<br />

Interim Chair starting in summer 2017, she served as Graduate Coordinator <strong>for</strong> Economics. She<br />

enjoys speaking with graduate students over coffee about all kinds of issues at the intersection<br />

of public health and economics.<br />

Dr. Malcolm is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational<br />

Therapy at CSU and in the Department of Health Systems, Management<br />
