12.6.2 International Convention on Standards <strong>of</strong> Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978 and Manila<br />

2010 Amendments.<br />

12.6.3 All MASS Operators should complete a generic MASS operator’s training course. This training should include,<br />

but not be limited to the requirements outlined in paragraph 12.8.1. Additional training should be undertaken for<br />

type and mission specific skills. The level <strong>of</strong> the skills required for each mission should be assessed, agreed and<br />

audited by an independent party.<br />

12.6.4 All training undertaken, and all subsequent operational experience should be recorded by the operator. All training<br />

should be endorsed by the training provider. Operational experience should be endorsed by an appropriate<br />

company representative. Evidence should include dates, operational hours, operational area, as well as where<br />

and when any training took place.<br />

12.7 EXPERIENCE<br />

12.7.1 It is recognised that MASS are an emerging technology. The approach adopted for this Code recommends starting<br />

with current seafarer skills; specific training needs will develop as solutions emerge. Your attention is drawn to<br />

industry Principle 9 and the sharing <strong>of</strong> best <strong>practice</strong> and experience.<br />

12.8 TRAINING NEEDS<br />

12.8.1 The following MASS specific training needs, shown at Table 12-1, have been identified. Where possible an<br />

equivalent MNTB National Occupational Standard has been identified to provide guidance.<br />
