13.5 SURVEY & CERTIFICATION PROCEDURE<br />
13.5.1 The owner or operator will apply as appropriate to the Flag State (or RO or Certifying Authority, as deemed suitable<br />
by the National Maritime Administration) for any mandatory survey & certification. Copies <strong>of</strong> the certificates should<br />
be held in the company and/or owner <strong>of</strong>fices and should be available in hardcopy or electronically on demand.<br />
13.6 SURVEY PROCEDURES<br />
13.6.1 Examination <strong>of</strong> the MASS for certification purposes will, as far as possible, follow the regime adopted for ships<br />
<strong>of</strong> similar type, in terms <strong>of</strong> periodicity and content <strong>of</strong> survey.<br />
13.6.2 Surveys will be conducted by ROs or Certifying Authorities as approved by the Flag State administration.<br />
13.7 MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES AND RECORDS<br />
13.7.1 All MASS should be provided with a recommended maintenance schedule from the designer/manufacturer.<br />
13.7.2 Configuration control <strong>of</strong> maintenance procedures and maintenance records should be assured as part <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Safety Management System and procedures for the operator.<br />
13.8 RESPONSIBILITIES FOR RECORD KEEPING<br />
13.8.1 Survey & maintenance records should be kept up to date by the operator and be readily accessible for inspection.<br />
