Der Höhle des Tigers
Die Sonne steht schon tief, als die Drei auf 2390 Metern
Höhe eine kleine Forschungsstation erreichen. In Lee des
Gebäudes schaufeln sie einen Biwakplatz. Schneeschmelzen.
Ein bisschen Krabbensuppe. Ab in Biwak- und Schlafsack.
Die Nacht ist eisig kalt und unbequem. Die Durchschnittstemperaturen
im Februar liegen am Mt. Fuji um
die Minus 18 Grad. Der Windchill tut sein Übriges.
Der Himmel ist blank am nächsten Morgen. Beine, Arme,
Rücken, alles steif. Tee und ein paar Reiskekse wecken
die Lebensgeister wieder. Die Wolken hängen tief unten
über Fujiyoshima. „Los!“, ruft Seb. Der Traum von diesem
Traumberg könnte doch noch in Erfüllung gehen. Vielleicht
haben die alten japanischen Weisen ja doch recht:
In the Tiger’s den
The sun is already low in the sky when the three reach a
small research station at 2,390 altitude meters. In the lee of
the buildings, they dig out a place to camp. A bit of crab
soup, then into the bivouac sack and sleeping bag. The
night is icy cold and uncomfortable. The average temperature

dreamlike mountain might still come true. Perhaps the
„Wer sich nicht in die Höhle des Tigers wagt, fängt seine
Jungen nicht.“ Also: „Probieren wird’s! Weiter, Schritt für
Schritt!“
Schon im 8. Jahrhundert sollen die ersten Menschen auf
diesen Krater gestiegen sein. Allerdings im Sommer. Seither
gilt er als heiliger Berg. Und längst ist er noch viel
mehr: Monument der Schönheit, Symbol für Ebenmaß,
Kunstobjekt, Sinnbild aller Vulkane, Wahrzeichen Japans
– die Bergikone schlechthin. Vielleicht noch bekannter
als das Matterhorn. Nicht so schwierig und deshalb noch
mehr überrannt.
Der Wechsel aus Rinnen und Schultern bietet ein ideales
Skitourengelände. Eigentlich. Tatsächlich erschweren den
old Japanese saying is right: “If you do not enter the tiger’s
cave, you will not catch its cub”. “Ok, let’s give it a go! Onwards,
one foot after the other!”
As early as the eighth century, people are said to have
first climbed this crater. In summer, of course. Since then
it has been considered a holy mountain. And it has long
since been much more than that: a monument to beauty, a
symbol for harmony, a work of art, a Japanese landmark,
emblematic of all volcanoes, the ultimate mountain icon.
Perhaps even better known than the Matterhorn, yet not
so difficult and therefore even more overrun. The alternation
of chutes and shoulders is ideal for ski touring. In
