Groundbreaking Invention
Dyson’s crude first prototype basically
worked, and proved his theory, but it
would take five years, going through 5,127
prototypes, before the G-Force - the world’s
first bagless vacuum cleaner, was perfected
and ready for the public. It was launched in
Japan, as UK retailers were not ready for a
replacement to their profitable vacuum bag
replacement business. The G-Force was a
success and afforded Dyson enough money to
start his own manufacturing company.
As a company, the Dyson philosophy is
to always to find a better way to do things.
He faced much admonition and rebuke from
high price point of these products but it’s the
price he is willing to pay to ensure that his
vision is perfected. Dyson products were not
only meant to be game changers, but also life
savers at home and there was no way this was
going to be, just to say.
Dyson has committed to a £1.5bn investment
in future technology.
Perhaps this is what attracted top talents
and dedicated staff to work at Dyson. Over
the years, the Dyson company has gone from
being a one man show to employing more
than 12,000 personnel all over the world.
From the first research centre and factory
in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, Dyson now has
their second UK site in Hullavington, a
Technology Centre in Singapore, as well as
an Advanced Manufacturing Centre there,
and a Development Centre in Johor Bahru,
Malaysia.
