Given the 42mm piece centres around automotive,
the crown has maintained its unique Mille Miglia design
reminiscent of a vintage three-spoke steering wheel. The
pushers that activate the chronograph are inspired by the
piston found within internal combustion engines.
Like many Chopard watches that have been
independently tested for their accuracy, the automatic
movement of the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Zagato
100th Anniversary Edition is on par with the stringent
standards set by the COSC. Hence, it can proudly declare so
on its dial: chronometer. The strap too is given a makeover as
the customary tyre tread rubber and perforated leather straps
give way to a grained black calfskin leather strap.
On top of that, Chopard has also included a bund strap
for an added sporty appeal that harks back to the olden days
where a bund strap was worn on top of a leather jacket to
enhance the traction between the watch and the garment in
order to prevent the watch from sliding loosely on the wrist
when cornering at high speeds. Turning the caseback over,
the wearer is greeted by a transparent sapphire crystal that is
laser engraved with the Zagato 100th Anniversary logo. The
rear bezel also indicates that the watch is a numbered piece.
Chopard has been a partner of the Mille Miglia race
for over three decades. The relationship was born out of
the watchmaker’s co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s
passion for classic cars. It was during one such gruelling
1,600km loop race (mille miglia means 1,000 miles in Italian)
