members at the University of Southern
California (USC), where I [am] the
International Director. Not only do I treat
urology-related [conditions], but I also see
many patients who need second opinions
regarding a range of other pathologies.”
Sotelo, who is a world-renowned
laparoscopic and robotic surgeon, is also
hailed as a trailblazer in surgeries and
treatments for complex urinary fistulae
in both men and women. The medical
expert also focuses on benign prostate
enlargement and inguinal lymph node
dissections for cancer-related diagnoses.
“There are some countries that have [good]
physicians in certain specialties, but not
all specialties are [available] in all
countries,” Sotelo explained. “Having an
international policy opens up so many
doors and possibilities for members. I
experience this myself with members who
need bladder reconstruction surgeries.
The top-level medical centers are far and
few in between.”
In particular, Sotelo recalls the intricate
case of Guillermo Pantín, a loyal Best
Doctors Insurance member, who thanks
to Dr. Sotelo and his team at USC, survived
an intricate bladder surgery and achieved
his dream of walking his daughter down
the aisle. “I recently experienced a
remarkable story with a patient in Panama.
I was so impressed with this case because
the patient had been a member of Best
Doctors Insurance for a long time and
never thought he would need major
surgery for bladder replacement,” Sotelo
tells of Pantín.
“It was a beautiful story because his
daughter was getting married and he was
getting major surgery right before, so there
was a lot of stress on his end. We did the
surgery and fortunately, Best Doctors
Insurance accompanied him throughout
the entire process. He received the best
care in one of the best facilities in the world
without any worries or doubts regarding
his insurance coverage.”
Agreeing with Sotelo, Pantín told the Best
Doctors Insurance Marketing staff that
obtaining an international policy “is one
of the things you have to do in life. This
was such an important milestone. That
moment of accompanying my daughter
to the altar. Investing in [your] health…
it’s something you just need to do.”
