On July 15, NET-

TV aired coverage

about the Brooklyn

Diocese

anticipating reopening

school

in September.

In a related

piece, it said,

“Superintendent of Schools, Thomas Chadzutko

is hoping to see students in person at our

Catholic Academies this September. He is

teaming up with Joseph Esposito, the diocesan

official responsible for opening churches and

schools safely. He says, ‘Our ultimate goal is

really to have 100% reopening’. Right now, the

plan to have students in class this fall needs

the okay from Gov. Andrew Cuomo.”

The Diocese wants moms and dads to know

there will be a lot of safety measures in place:

hand sanitizing stations, enhanced cleaning,

and health checks at all school entrances.

St Matthias Catholic Academy (SMCA) in

Ridgewood is currently cleaning, repairing and

most importantly sanitizing

its school to prepare for a

safe return of students, faculty

and staff. It is updating

families regularly with details

about its reopening plan. In

addition, the school will be

emailing each family a survey

about its intentions for the return

to school in order to help

make informed decisions and

prepare for the best reopening

plan for all.

SMCA strongly recommends

that parents make

sure that each child is continuing to work on

his/her summer ELA and Math assignments

that were provided by each teacher. It is important

to reinforce the knowledge and skills that

were learned this past school year in order to

prepare for the next grade level.

SMCA is proud of its teachers for guiding

and supporting students’ transition to distance

learning this past year including providing a virtual

TACHS preparation program to assist rising

eighth graders prepare for the TACHS test.

This important exam is needed to apply for acceptance

into Diocesan Catholic high schools.

The test is scheduled for Nov. 7.

Stay in touch with SMCA on its Facebook

page for updates as it prepares to see students

in person this fall.
