St. Francis of Assisi CA

Building Students’ Capacity to Learn

Brooklyn

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy (SFA-

CA) located in the Prospect/Lefferts Gardens

area of Flatbush has been an educational beacon

for more than 100 years. Following in the footsteps

of St. Francis of Assisi, this gem steeped

in the Catholic tradition of excellence enables

students through its faith formation program to

develop a deeper understanding of the teachings

of Jesus while cultivating a deeper relationship

with Him.

Utilizing the NYS Next Generation standards

for its core subjects (ELA, Mathematics, Science

and Social Studies) and believing that children

are not born with all the intelligence that they will

ever have, SFACA has been committed to enhancing

its educational curriculum by incorporating

some of these intelligences through music, art,

and physical education. In this same vein, the

Academy participates in “Stages on the Sound”

performing arts residence every year. Through

this residency, students in various grades gain enriching

experiences working with artists in playwriting,

filmmaking and dramatization. Additionally,

the students, faculty and staff of St. Francis

are known for their phenomenal Christmas and

Spring Show productions.

In this era of COVID-19, SFACA was extremely

fortunate to have had technology classes as part

of its regular curriculum throughout the school

year. These technology classes became the

spring board for launching a successful distance

learning program for all our students, Pre-K - 8,

from March through June of this year.

Every student graduating from St. Francis

leaves equipped with strong study skills,

time-management and note-taking techniques

that prepares them for high school, college and

a career. To this end, it is important to note that

many of our students who opt to continue on to

Catholic high schools often receive scholarships.

St. Francis of Assisi Academy has dedicated

educators who along with the continual presence

and influence of the Sisters of St. Joseph since its

inception in 1909 has sought to instruct students

in the Catholic faith tradition. Recently the Academy

has also been blessed with the presence of

the Emmanuel Sisters.

Tuition is comparable to other Catholic schools

in the area and tuition assistance is available.
