St. Edmund Prep
St. Edmund Prep to Return with Hybrid Learning Model
Brooklyn
St. Edmund Preparatory High School will return
to the halls of 2474 Ocean Avenue when the
2020-2021 school year begins for all students on
September 14th. St. Edmund Prep has created a
plan to open this September with a hybrid model.
Each day, some students will be in the building
face to face while other students are at home.
This plan was created first and foremost
with the health and safety of all members of the
school community in mind, while responding to
the feedback of its families. The physical limitations
of the school building presented some interesting
challenges to the twenty-five member
re-opening task force. The hybrid model allows
students to socially distance and responsibly return
to in-person learning. During the COVID-19
shut down of schools, St. Edmund Prep leveraged
the integration of the Google G-Suite and
its 1:1 Chromebook program to seamlessly
move to complete remote learning. Additional
technology upgrades in the classrooms will
allow for all lessons to be synchronous, which
means that the students at home will be taking
part in the same live lesson happening with their
class in the school building.
In a letter to the school community, Principal
Allison McGinnis said “The SEP Re-Opening Plan
is very thorough and detailed. Our students will
be receiving an education that fosters bold learning
and uncommon leaders. Resuming extracurricular
activities will allow students to express
themselves in a way that has been lacking these
past five months. Combining responsible health
and safety precautions with rigorous academics
will allow us to continue to provide opportunities
for our students to grow academically, socially,
and religiously as it remains our priority to live
out our mission.”
We are confident that this plan will enable St.
Edmund Prep to continue to form the innovative,
compassionate, moral leaders our world needs
in the face of the ever changing educational
landscape of the 21st Century.
