Our goal is to allow the children to be in the school building as many days as possible.
We will follow all guidelines set forth by New York State and the CDC.

reduced capacity in classrooms

offices, and restrooms

sanitizer in every classroom and
every entrance/exit, as well as
individual sanitizer for each student
a cloth face mask for each student
• temperature checks for everyone
entering the building
very limited visitors during the day
• disinfecting products and fogging
machine for after school cleaning
•
arrival and dismissal schedule will
be staggered utilizing all exits of
the building.

St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Academy offers
all the many benefits and values that Catholic
education provides to our young students
and its contributions to our church, our communities
and our nation. One of the most important
facts about the Catholic education that
is offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic
Academy is not that it offers just the teaching
of academic subjects, but that it also includes
the formation of the whole child including their
spiritual, moral and social development. Most
importantly it forms and strengthens our students’
Catholic identity.
The three components of faith, knowledge
and service are inextricably linked to each
other and are part of the daily Catholic school
curriculum at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic
Academy. We are all learners, servants and
leaders at STACA. Our school has a long tradition
of Catholic education that began in 1909
when the first Dominican Sisters arrived at the
school to begin their mission in Woodhaven. It
has since continued in that same tradition for

Queen of Angels, BVM
Help of Christians, St. Teresa,
and St. Sebastian.
Located in the culturally
diverse neighborhood of
Woodside, St. Sebastian Catholic
Academy offers a values-centered
curriculum and an academically challenging
environment where students develop
spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially.
Students experience a variety of learning experiences
including library/media skills, STEM,
art, music, foreign language, physical education
and health. We have just upgraded our network
to support the ever-evolving technology in the
academy. Students in grade 5 through 8 have
access to iPads in the classroom and laptops
are available to Grades K-4.

St. Thomas the Apostle has grades K-8 and
offers a free PKA Program for children who will
be four years old in 2021. Families can apply
for financial assistance to help with the cost
of the tuition. We offer technology-based instruction
in all the NYS curriculum areas and
in religion. During the recent health crisis, our
faculty and staff managed to continue to offer
classes remotely without pause to provide our
students with continuity of instruction during
this unprecedented time. Our students receive
sacramental preparation as well as instruction
in music, Spanish, art and physical education.

For students who need additional
support we have SETSS (special
education teacher support
services), Speech, Occupational
Therapy, and counseling.
Pre-K for All is a free
program that is available
to all students born in
2016. Children have access
to an outdoor playspace
and indoor gym. As part of the
program, students receive a nourishing
breakfast and a hot lunch.
As a testament to St. Sebastian’s academic
excellence, the 2020 graduating class collectively
earned more than $300,000 in Catholic
high school scholarships, and students were
excepted to the finest public high schools in
New York city.
