St. Stanislaus Kostka

Catholic Academy of Queens

Queens

Celebrating its 90th anniversary,

St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic

Academy of Queens welcomes

students from nursery

through eighth grade and offers

a Pre-K for All program that

welcomes four-year-olds.

The best descriptions of a school

do not come from its administration.

They come from the students and their families.

St. Stanislaus Kostka has been referred to

as “the happy school,” a second home, a truly

wonderful school, a place with a very dedicated

staff and a board that strives to ensure that the

children receive the best possible education

while having fun in a family environment!

St. Stan’s is not merely a school. It is a place

where students gain a differentiated, faithbased,

academic foundation on which to build

their education. They learn the value of family,

respect for all, self-control, student agency, and

form friendships that last forever.

The academic curriculum is delivered in concert

with a child’s ability. The instruction is differentiated

and works towards increasing each

child’s level of understanding, accomplished

by using a mix of blended learning, technology

and small group instruction. Time is devoted

for children to work at their own level of understanding,

whether remedial or enrichment. The

school offers SETTS teachers, speech therapy,

occupational therapy, and Title 1 funded math

and reading.

St. Stan’s is not merely

a school. It is a place

where students gain a

differentiated, faith-based,

academic foundation

on which to build their

education.

Coupled with educational experiences

gained from interacting with an inquiry-based

state of the art STREAM Lab, the students will

learn and be engaged. STREAM stands for

Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art,

and Mathematics. St. Stan’s STREAM Lab is

filled with devices that include Ozobots, Little

Bits, Cubelits, 3D printers and other materials

that stimulate creativity and inquiry skills to

solve problems.

St. Stan’s believes in educating

the whole child and offers a free

after-school Musical Theater

Program, open to students

from nursery through eighth

grade. Participants are taught

acting skills, singing and dancing.

Many past Oratorical Assembly

winners and finalists have taken the

poise and on-stage skills learned in the Musical

Theater Program and applied them to public

speaking. Much more than just a “school play,”

this program teaches everything from performing

to stage management, set design, operation

of light and sound boards, and production

management. Students have discovered talents

and interests that only became apparent

through their involvement in this program!

The St. Stan’s Performing Arts Players present

at least one musical theater production a

year, and perform at community and parish

events. As St. Stan’s begins its 12th year, it continues

to move with the times, developing virtual

and socially distant performances.

St. Stan’s also takes pride in being a 1:1

school - one device for the exclusive use of

each student. Students seamlessly made the

transition to distance learning due to their familiarity

with the use of technology and device

use in school. Homeroom teachers presented

at least two live instructional lessons daily, and

teachers of special subjects delivered a weekly

live lesson. Special subjects include art, music,

physical education, Spanish, STREAM, technology,

and writer’s workshop.

Catholic Identity is strong at St. Stan’s.

Weekly Masses, daily prayer, Advent and Lenten

gatherings, prayer services, remembrances,

observations of holy days, and service projects

are just a few of the ways students practice

their faith. Students are taught to engage with

each other in a caring and respectful way, always

reflecting on the feelings of others with

empathy and compassion.

Joining St. Stan’s means being embraced

by its academy family. Each child and family

is welcomed and provided with many opportunities

to engage in activities in and out of the

classroom!
