swinging at Environment
Canterbury’sproposed rate
Provincial president David
Canterbury farmer and
national board member Chris
demonstrate financial
discipline andstick with
FederatedFarmers 3000
Canterbury members were
outraged and hugely
disappointed withthe very
large ratesincreases
proposed.
Most farmersface bigger
hikes than theoverall
average of 24.5 percent in the
financial year starting July 1.
‘‘Nobusiness hasthe
luxury of unlimited income,
especially farmerswho as
price takers cannot just
increase their prices.Ecan
should be no different,’’ Mr
Clark told councillors.
Federated Farmerscalled
on Ecan to ‘‘relentlessly
focus on valuefor money and
ensureits spendingis
targeted, controlled and
phased overthe decade’’.
It neededtoprioritise what
itmust do by law, not on
Both farmers recalled a
decadeago when there was a
huge disconnect between
urban Christchurch andthe
hinterland.‘‘It’s concerning
that after adecadeof
