The event,organised by Ashburton CanAm, is on the Wheels Week programme andwillboost the coffers of St John Ashburton. Manager James Bradford said it had attracted abit of interest and wouldtake in sectionsofthe Ashburton River terrain. It was open to anybody in an offroad vehiclesuch as autility terrainvehicle (or sidebyside),quad bike or fourwheel drive vehicle. It costs $40 per vehicle. “I’mhopingfor agood turnout to supportStJohnand have abit of fun,” he said. The raw material came in different consistencies and colours. Glass was heated up to 1160 degreescelsius and ablowing iron usedtocreate abubble. Burrell, who lives in Whanganui, said he enjoyed the cold working process of glass sculpture. The headteacher at Jigsaw Preschool graduatedfrom the Open Polytechnic last yearbut covid meant there was no chancetowearher graduation gown and officially receive her wellearned qualifications. Thisyear the polytech, which specialises in online and distance learning, is recognising 2020and 2021 graduates and Angela, with her Bachelor of Teaching (EarlyChildhoodEducation), was oneoftwo students chosen to speak at agraduation event in Christchurch on Wednesday. Manywould have experienced awhirlwindof emotions when the opportunity to graduate last year wastaken awaybythe pandemic, shesaid. Graduating yesterdaywas the last pieceofthe puzzle. ‘‘My whole journey feels complete.” She started as ateacherin trainingatJigsaw five years ago and has spent agood chunk of the time since in a disciplined cycle of work, study and sleep.
