OIL SHALE
In accordance with ONHYM’s strategy for oil
shale development, the activity in 2008 focused
on the following :
Study of a new legal and fiscal
framework
As part of its new strategy, ONHYM is working
on the development of an appropriate legal
framework for the development of oil shale.
One (national office of electricity)
project
As part of ONHYM / ONE partnership, the latter
has carried on its consultations with specialized
companies for the construction of a pilot
thermal plant using Tarfaya oil shale. Thus, for
a best optimization of the project, the capacity
of the plant will be 100 MW instead of 20 MW
expected initially.

Petrobras/Total agreement
The first phase of the estimated work program
has been completed ; the ‘Petrosix’ process
has been tested on fresh core samples from
Timahdit. The second phase of the project
has also started with the gathering of the data
necessary to the environmental impact study.
San leon
Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines
San Leon Company has a keen interest in the
deep strata of Tarfaya oil shale deposit and has
concluded a confidentiality agreement for the
testing of the data available in this zone.
Xtract energy
Signature of a MoU of two-year extensible
validity, for the feasibility study and evaluation of
oil shale in “Tarfaya 1” permit.
Eesti energia
Signature with the Estonian national company
of a confidentiality agreement on oil shale in
Tarfaya onshore zone.
