The spectacular desert scenery of Wadi Rum
is made up of ancient valleys and towering
sandstone mountains, rising out of white
and pink coloured sands. Home to the many
exploits of TE Lawrence during the 1917-1918
Arab Revolt, Wadi Rum was used for the desert
shots of the films Lawrence of Arabia, The
Martian, the latest Star Wars movie and the live
action remake of Disney's Aladdin.

Wadi Rum
Wadi Rum can be explored by 4x4 or camel,
and a night camping allows you to witness the
stunning sunrises and sunsets over the dunes,
and the moonlike landscape of the desert. The
inky black skies of cool desert nights, filled
with shooting stars and glimpses of the Milky
Way, offers a stark contrast to the intense sun
during the day.
Situated 400 metres below sea level, the Dead
Sea is the lowest body of water on the surface
of the Earth. 75km long and ranging from
6km to 16km wide, the salt lake is fed mainly
by the Jordan River. There is no outlet for the
water, so it becomes trapped and evaporates,
leaving behind salts and minerals. The high salt
content makes any significant plant and animal
life impossible, and thus gives it its name.
The mineral-rich waters are reputed to
bring natural health benefits, and the high
concentration of salt makes the water
exceptionally buoyant. Less than an hour
from the airport in Amman, and with several
luxurious spa resorts, it’s an ideal place to relax
at the end of a trip or to stop for a night after
visiting Petra.

Morning tour of Jerash with a local guide.
Head south along the King’s Highway, visiting
Madaba and Mount Nebo. The day ends in
Dana, a protected nature reserve established
in 1989 and covering 320 sq km of rugged
and beautiful landscape. Overnight at Dana

Day 4: Feynan
Follow the constantly changing scenery of
the 15-kilometre Wadi Dana Trail to Feynan,
arriving in time for a sunset hike. Stay

Day 5: Petra
Morning drive to Petra. On arrival, visit Little
Petra. Stay at the Petra Guest House for 3

Day 6: Petra
Full-day guided tour of the rose-red city, with
its network of temples and tombs. (B)
Day 7: Petra
A chance to spend a second day in Petra to
discover more of the fascinating sights in
your own time and at your own pace. (B)
Day 8: Wadi Rum
Drive to the stunning sandstone and
granite valley known as Wadi Rum for a
4x4 excursion into the rough terrain. Stay
overnight at Sun City Camp, where you can
spend a night under canvas or out in the

Day 9: Dead Sea
Morning departure from Wadi Rum to
the Dead Sea. En route, visit the 12thcentury
crusader castle of Shobak or Kerak.
