San rock art, Matobo Hills National Park
Matobo Hills National Park
San rock art • Historic colonial-era sites •
Track black & white rhinos on foot
Matobo is home to huge granite kopjes (hills),
interspersed with grassy plains and wooded
thickets. It has Africa’s highest concentration
of leopards and the highest concentration of
Verreaux’s eagles of any park in the world.
White and black rhinos can be tracked here on
foot – a rarity in a national park. The ancient
San people have left a legacy of more than
50,000 rock paintings, with discoveries still
being found. Matobo was also the site of the
Ndebele rebellion against the British in 1896.
Colonialist Cecil John Rhodes was buried within
the park, and his grave can be visited.
Boating safari, Chobe National Park
Chobe National Park
View elephants from the water • Remarkable
boating safaris • Impressive sunsets
Within easy reach of Victoria Falls, Chobe
National Park – known as the ‘Land of the
Giants’ – is celebrated for its huge elephant
population, which concentrates on the Chobe
riverfront in the dry season (May to October).
The park is also well known for its large lion
prides, especially in the Savute area, as well
as great herds of buffalo and prolific birdlife.
Perfect for a slower adventure, Chobe National
Park offers unusual wildlife experiences such
as boat safaris where guests can sip on a cool
sundowner while spotting animals from
the water.
Cultural interactions | Zimbabwe
In rural Zimbabwe, visitors have the
chance to interact with and learn from
local communities. Gain insight into
the daily lives of villagers and see how
they work with the land to sustain their
livelihoods. Less visited than other sites,
these countryside communities provide an
experience of authentic Africa.
The Okavango Delta
Mokoro safari
Mokoro canoe safaris • Gain a bird’s eye view
from the air • Authentic tented bush camps
The UNESCO-listed Okavango Delta is the
largest inland delta in the world. From May
to October, its floodwaters are a magnet
for animals, promising unrivalled wildlife
viewing. The area is packed with Africa’s
finest fauna, including large populations of
otherwise-rare animals such as crocodiles,
sitatungas, elephants, red lechwe, African
wild dogs, buffaloes and wattled cranes.
The delta is a particularly good place to
spot some of Botswana’s more than 570
bird species. Day and night safari drives,
bush walks, seasonal mokoro canoe rides,
fishing and birdwatching are just some of
the activities available.
Lion, Moremi Game Reserve
Moremi Game Reserve
Botswana’s prime big-cat location • Top safari
camps • Limited visitors
Moremi Game Reserve lies in the heart of
the Okavango Delta, encompassing almost
5,000 sq km of wilderness. Unfenced and
surrounded by private concessions, it has
been designated a protected area since 1962.
Moremi has a good variety of habitats, from
riverine and mopane forests to open savannas
and shallow flooded lagoons. Wildlife viewing
in the reserve is exceptional, especially on
Chief’s Island, where a large density of big cats
– especially lions and leopards – can often be
found. Moremi is home to some of Botswana’s
premier safari camps, elevating visitors’
experiences in one of Africa’s best-regarded
reserves.
Chobe River cruises | Botswana
Experience the wildlife paradise of
Botswana’s Chobe River aboard a custom
boat. Enjoy sundowners while searching
for some of the abundant wildlife here,
including elephants, buffaloes, giraffes and
hippos.
Mokoro canoe cruises | Botswana
One of the best ways to get close to
the wildlife of the Okavango Delta is by
mokoro. These canoes, traditionally made
by digging out the trunk of a large, straight
tree, are propelled by a long pole, rather
like punting. Availability for this activity is
seasonal.
Authentic bush camps | Botswana
Stay in one of Botswana’s pioneering
tented camps for an authentic safari
experience. Under a night sky brimming
with stars, be lulled to sleep in the African
bush by the calls, chirps and chattering of
distant wildlife.
