1: letter on mourning paper, signed ''X'', from Derwent Villa,<br />

Sydenham Road North, (Cheltenham?) May, (no day or year date),<br />

to Mrs Sims (<strong>Alfred</strong> <strong>Russel</strong> <strong>Wallace</strong>'s sister Fanny), thanking her<br />

for her kind letter and likenesses of <strong>Alfred</strong> <strong>Russel</strong> <strong>Wallace</strong> and<br />

aunt (Wilson?); describing the writer's step-daughter Mrs York<br />

and her children and reminiscing about childhood times at<br />

Dulwich. Annotated in pencil (by <strong>Alfred</strong> <strong>Russel</strong> <strong>Wallace</strong>?)<br />

2: One folio folded headed ''My description continued'', apparently<br />

part of a letter, in blue ink in an unknown hand, describing<br />

(limestone?) caves with underground lakes visited by the writer<br />

and old Mr Hatch; mentioning Hatch's daughter Phoebe, Mr Sims<br />

and Mrs Cole.<br />

3: Ms in black ink in an unknown hand, one folded folio headed<br />

''Robert Montgomery'' on the right and ''1842'' on the other, with<br />

notes on the life and poetry of Robert Montgomery and, under<br />

''1842'', the role of major poets including Wordsworth in<br />

procuring funding to build a church (near Cardiff Castle?).<br />
