Notes: Although the copies were made c 1914 the first date in each<br />

case has been recorded as the date of the original letter. <strong>The</strong>se<br />

were sent to Violet after her father's death, and were probably<br />

provided to assist James Marchant in writing ''Letters and<br />

Reminiscences...'' (1916); and have been included in this series on<br />

that assumption. At first listing they were among apparently<br />

unrelated papers in original box 2.<br />
