Our Media Arts department has a collaboratively designed space all its own. The television studio will have editing and audio recording equipment suites for our videography students to create creative productions that will be shared with the entire campus and give them the opportunity to mentor students not in the program that would like to use the equipment to create new and interesting ways to showcase their learning. Podcasts for the MVA community will be developed in our new recording studio, digital art can be created through our photography program that can be shared and utilized across campus, and our yearbook staff will be able to collaborate with like-minded peers to enhance the presentation of the yearbook for all beyond the printed publication. Our Middle and Upper School robotics teams will have a new space suitable to collaborate cross-divisions and provide exposure to multiple programming strategies through FIRST LEGO league and VEX robotics. This space will allow both teams to observe and provide critical feedback to one another, mentoring opportunities and new technology that will advance their strategic skills to assist in their advancement in both programs. It has the potential to grow both programs where MVA could potentially be engaged in competitions in both VEX and FIRST in both divisions giving a wider exposure of our school and our skills nationally. Maker-spaces for all divisions are also included. The Lower School will have its own space on the bottom floor of Conrad-Lehman on the old stage where our Pre-K through grade five students will have materials to build, take apart, and rebuild various projects that apply to their own learning objectives. Middle School and Upper School students will have “bigger tools” such as sewing machines, common hardware, machinery, and a wide-variety of other materials that will allow them to do the same. All students will be presented with national challenge competitions and innovation Maker Fairs to highlight their work. It is our hope that one day that we can host an MVA Maker Fair to showcase our school’s talent! Technology will be expanded through exciting programming opportunities with our newly designed computer classes where students will learn everything from various program languages, how to solve basic tech issues for teachers and students across campus, and how to design Augmented and Virtual Reality platforms. Imagine the opportunities for students to build their own programming and create actual products that could be published even before they leave our campus. These classes will support not only our general student populace interested in a technology career but will also partner seamlessly with EA SPORTS at MVA Gaming Academy and STEM Student Academic Concentration (SAC) programs. Besides these academic spaces, what else can our students and families look forward to? MVA faculty and students will have open collaborative meeting spaces in which they can bring their colleagues for planning academic projects, integration of educational technology 28 THE TOWER | SUMMER <strong>2022</strong>
and access to the resources of the center in order to develop their ideas and propose solutions to real-world problems. A coffee bar will be headed by our marketing classes to provide actual immersive business experience. A series of talks from Montverde Academy and community leaders will give everyone personal experience on their definition and integration of innovation and become role models and mentors for all of our MVA students.
