BOYS TRACK AND FIELD<br />

The boys track and field team was the best in the state of<br />

Florida in <strong>2022</strong>. They won five invitationals, including the<br />

Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) state<br />

championship meet on May 12. Not only did the Eagles<br />

win, but the team won by a convincing margin, 24 points<br />

over the second-place team.<br />

In addition to winning the state’s top honor, the Eagles<br />

took first place in their FHSAA regional (5/5) and district<br />

(4/25) championship meets. During the course of the<br />

season, MVA also earned first place in the Citrus League<br />

championship (2/25), Mount Dora Christian Academy<br />

Invitational (3/29) and IMG Academy Invitational (4/9).<br />

The Eagles were led by Micah Larry who excelled as<br />

the season went on. He finished no worse than second<br />

in every event at each invitational, after the first meet<br />

of the season. He won 11 events overall in five different<br />

meets. Zyaire Nuriddin also had an all-American caliber<br />

season, winning 15 events total. He led the state of<br />

Florida with the fastest times on record this season in the<br />

100-meter dash and 400-meter dash. He blazed the way<br />

to victory in the 100-meter dash in 10.24 seconds at the<br />

district championship meet and ran the 400-meter dash<br />

in 45.78 seconds en route to victory at the Florida Relays<br />

on April 2. Alex Georgiev also had a fantastic season,<br />

winning eight pole vaulting events. He had the secondhighest<br />

height of the season in the state of Florida when<br />

he won the event at the Mount Dora Christian Academy<br />

Invitational with a height of 4.84 meters.<br />

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD<br />

The girls track and field team was solid in <strong>2022</strong>, winning<br />

three invitationals, including the Florida High School<br />

Athletic Association (FHSAA) regional championship meet<br />

on May 5, the district championship meets on April 25 and<br />

the Florida State Relays on March 26. The Eagles also<br />

had solid second place finishes in the state championship<br />

meet on May 12, the Mount Dora Christian Academy<br />

Invitational on March 29, the Bolles Bulldog Classic on<br />

March 4 and the Citrus League championship on<br />

February 25.<br />

The Eagles were led by the duo of Micayah Holland and<br />

Michelle Smith. Holland won all eight 100-meter dash<br />

events she was entered in. She ran the fastest 100-meter<br />

dash in the state of Florida this year when winning it at the<br />

state championship meet in a time of 11.26 seconds. She<br />

also ran the fastest time in the state in the 200-meter dash<br />

when she won it at the state championship meet in 23.13<br />

seconds. Smith meanwhile earned a team-high 17 total<br />

wins, including the fastest 300-meter hurdles in a time of<br />

41.56 at the state championship meet.<br />
