Kency Duarte ’07
Kency Duarte attended Montverde Academy for his junior
and senior years, graduating in 2007. He was co-captain
of the 2007 baseball team that finished as State Runnerup.
His baseball career continued to soar when he played
Division I baseball at Alabama A&M University, starting
all four years, and earned the student-athlete award the
last three years he was there. After college, Kency played
for the Puerto Rico professional baseball organization for
three years before starting a career in an international
accounting firm having completed a Bachelor of Science
(B.S.) in Accounting from Alabama A&M. He has worked
the past 10 years as an accountant and recently began
working at Arledge & Associates, in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma where he has already been promoted to
senior manager and hopes to become a partner in the
firm one day.
Kency has carried the MVA spirit of community and
service with him along the years, having recently
received the On the Horizon Award by the Oklahoma
City Young Professionals. This award recognizes young
professionals who are positively impacting the community
with their leadership, volunteerism, and stewardship.
In early 2022, He was nominated and later selected for
the Trailblazer Award by the Oklahoma Society of CPAs,
which is awarded to members who are under the age of
40 and have five or fewer years of CPA experience.
MVA provided me with the

set me up to be successful in life
after school.

Kency does not believe that the success he has
experienced is by accident, “Montverde Academy
provided me with the necessary tools to be successful
after graduation. With the skills and values I learned, it
certainly set me up to be successful in life after school.”
said Kency.
“Being involved in a school with so many different
cultures provided an opportunity for growth as an
individual that many don’t get to experience.”
When he thinks back to his time at the Academy he
remembers the strong relationships he built and still has
to this day. “Itʼs a unique feeling of joy when I see alumni
reach their goals as well as the positive impact MVA has
on the students and community.”
Kency has been married for more than seven years to
Maryorie Montalvo who is currently pursuing her PhD.
They are pet parents to a mini farm: two mini horses,
one potbelly pig, a chihuahua named Ginger, a German
shepherd named Kona, and chickens that provide fresh
eggs for the ultimate backyard to table experience.
In closing, Kency leaves some good advice to our current
MVA community, “Do not allow life to come at you, but
instead take action to move towards reaching your goals,
one day at a time. Invest more energy in utilizing your
strengths than developing your weaknesses. Let yourself
be seen and heard. We can all add value and be of
positive impact with our strengths that speaks volume to
those around us. I will forever cherish my time at MVA
and be a proud Eagle!”
