TIPS

Did You Know?

Digital sharpening is actually an

illusion. It does not actually

sharpen anything but rather

exaggerates edges by increasing

the contrast of adjacent pixels.

Sharpening cannot correct an

image blurred from camera shake

or a moving subject.

More Options!

You can also paint on the Smart

Filter’s layer mask to remove the

sharpening from different regions

in the image. You can also use the

Sharpen tool ( ) to paint directly

over specific areas to sharpen

them. You can even sharpen

individual color channels, such as

the red and green channels, to

avoid exaggerating the noise in the

third channel.

Important!

The amount of sharpening to apply

is often a matter of personal

choice. Oversharpening creates a

halo effect around the edges. To

sharpen images for viewing

on-screen, sharpen until the image

looks pleasing on your calibrated

monitor. To sharpen images for

print, add just enough sharpening

so the image looks slightly

oversharpened on the monitor.
