CREATE A PASTEL DRAWING from a photograph (continued)

You apply the Glowing Edges filter to delineate the

subject matter and then change the colored lines to

black. You can either use the lines as a guide and

draw within the lines or brush over them to blend the

edges in with the colors. To create a natural-looking

pastel drawing, start with a larger brush size and

draw-in the main color areas. Be sure to click and

drag your brush strokes, following the contours of the

subject.

Although this technique applies the pastels on a tinted

paper, you can create the pastel drawing on a white

background by skipping steps 14 to 20. You can also

use the steps in this task with different Mixer Brush

tool presets to create different looks. Try Pencil–Soft

Opaque for a colored pencil look or Angle–Flat

Opaque for a more brushed oil effect. Be sure to

adjust the settings in the Options bar as in steps 26

to 29 each time you select a different tool preset.
