process of the same discipline.Finally, I am going to elaborate onthe establishment of an efficientBIM workflow, which would givedata "captured" in BIM disciplinemodels (which I wrote about inthe introductory article"Advanced BIM DataManagement" ) value through theexchange of data between BIMmodels of different disciplines.Optimization OfGenerating BIMDiscipline ModelGeometryExample 1In projects, it is prevalent thatyou need to arrange certain BIMelements along a specificdirection at equal distances. Theelements could be columns, piles,lights, diffusers, etc., andpractically all of the elementswhose coordinates are definedwith a particular point or verticalline.The simplest scenario is whenlet’s say, we have a straight line ofa certain length, along which it isnecessary to arrange certainelements - we will use "Array"and, in a straightforward way,allocate certain BIM elements tothe desired positions.However, if a line of a givenlength is crooked or changesdirection several times, then weare talking about thearrangement of elements alongthe “spline”. Such a request cangive us a lot of headaches andproblems, take a lot of BIMmodeling time, and it will alwaysbe questionable whether we havearranged the elements accordingto the given criterion withsufficient precision.Notably, Dynamo script can helpus with this. It will very quickly,efficiently, and, most importantly,in a perfectly precise manner,distribute a certain number ofBIM elements along an irregularfinite-length line.Please watch the video:Example 2In each project, there is aproblem of coordinatingopenings between different BIMdiscipline models. It is typical forthe BIM model of constructionand MEP (mechanical, electrical,and plumbing) installations tofollow the given openings thatare generated in the BIM modelof architecture. Take, forexample, the need to coordinatedoor openings between the BIMarchitecture model and the BIMstructure model.In this example, take theassumption that it is necessary tocoordinate and model 168 dooropenings in the BIM constructionmodel (a very realisticassumption for a 20-storybuilding project), previouslygenerated in the BIM model ofarchitecture.It would take in classic BIMworkflows between half an hourand one hour to model openingsin a BIM construction model. Theissue of coordination betweenthe BIM model of structure andthe BIM model of architecturewith the standard BIM workflow,i.e., classical modeling, would behighly questionable because ofthe possibility of human error inthe process of BIM modeling.A Dynamo script, which byclicking a button copies the typeof opening selected by the BIMoperator (doors, windows,generic openings) from the linkedBIM architecture model to theBIM construction model, can alsohelp us with this.Please watch the video:Example 3When designing buildings, mostoften, the architect firstgenerates a BIM model.
