Building A Better Sarnia-Lambton
Summer is upon us in Sarnia-Lambton. I hope you and your family have
the opportunity to experience all the festivals, markets, cultural events,
sporting activities and more that Lambton County has to offer.
When I’m out and about in the community, one of the questions I often
get asked is about what financial, health and housing supports are
available for those of us in the 55+ age group.
Here are just a few highlights of the incentives the Ontario government
has to offer:
The Ontario Seniors Care at Home Tax Credit supports a wide range of
medical expenses to help low-to-moderate-income senior families age
at home. These supports include attendant care, assistive breathing
devices, and hearing and walking aids. Eligible recipients receive up to
25 per cent of their claimable medical expenses up to $6,000, for a
maximum credit of $1,500.
The Home and Vehicle Modification Program helps children and adults
with restricted mobility to continue living safely in their homes, avoid
job loss and participate in their communities. Eligible individuals may
receive grants of up to $15,000 to modify their home and/or vehicle.
The Ontario Senior Homeowners’ Property Tax Grant is intended to
help offset property taxes for low-to-moderate-income people 64 years
of age or older who own their own home. It provides up to $500 each
year depending on adjusted family net income.
Some other programs you might be interested in are the Ontario Trillium
Benefit, the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, the Ontario Sales
Tax Credit, and the Ontario Seniors’ Public Transit Tax Credit.
