He wakes up every
morning with a sigh
and a constant thought
of why. He struggles
with making the
decision to get out of
bed, and due to this
indecision he doesn’t
ever have enough time
to eat. He speeds down
dark highways towards
his job. After work he
watches old reruns
while being lit only by
the blue light of the tv.

at Pima. Her short story collection
Masha’allah and Other Stories (Heyday,
2012) won the California Book Award for
first fiction; in theory she’s working on a
novel, but between teaching and having
a toddler, she mostly has time for flash
fiction, zines, and emails. She spends
way too much time at her computer and
prefers to be outside, with her family, and
with a pen and paper and a cup of coffee.
