can be used in most of the Danish
ports like Horsens, Vejle, Randers, Kolding,
Aalborg and others.
Kalundborg
Port of Kalundborg on the western coast
of Sjælland has launched a master plan for
the coming decades with great plans for
investment to generate more traffic to the
port.
The most significant investment in the
master plan is a new ferry terminal to
serve Mols-Linien. Mols-Linien has its
trailer service between Århus and Kalundborg,
and has seen a huge rise in figures,
especially in non-accompanied trailers.
The old terminal lies partly in the city
area, but a new terminal on the south
side of the Kalundborg fjord will keep the
trailer and lorry traffic out of the town
centre.
As of today some 360,000 units are
sailed by Mols-Linien, of which 70 per cent
are non-accompanied trailers. In fact Mols-
Linien has seen an addition of 15 per cent
since 2006.
Another huge commodity for Kalundborg
is export of grain from the whole isle
of Sjælland. Most of the turnover of 3.9
million tons is grain export. So a new terminal
also on the south side of the fjord is
part of the plan, which also has a cruise/
passenger terminal in the old centre harbour.
Kalundborg has the advantage of a
suitable water depth in the fjord and up to
twelve metres along the quays and up to 14
metres in the future terminals within the
port.

and used for import and export for the
oil refinery – and finally the Asnæs port, a
private port owned by the power station
Asnæsværket.
Kalundborg wants to be the regional
port for the whole of Sjælland as it has
much easier access than København on
the other side of Sjælland.
Also Kalundborg and its mayor, Tommy
Dinesen, a former AB from DSB ferries,
have ambitions for Kalundborg also to be
a deepwater port for Skåne and a port in
Øresund as well.
