Cruising to Stockholm is popular.
Good cruise year in stockhoLM
In all, 255 cruise ships with 281 000
passengers called at Ports of Stockholm
during the 2007 cruise season. These
figures are only slightly lower compared
with the record year of 2006.
”The number of calls and passengers
has stabled in recent years, and the
levels are high. The cruise business is
doing well right now. We are the fourth
largest cruise destination in the Baltic
Sea,” says Josefin Haraldsson, project
manager at Stockholm Visitors Board,
in a comment to SSG.

A. P. Møller-Mærsk’s E-class container
vessel seems even bigger than the
14,500 TEUs claimed by several sources
until now. AXS-Alphaliner, an international
container research company,
has done a new counting based on a
detailed drawing of the type.
Their conclusion on the capacity
landed on: 15,200 TEUs with a capacity
of 7,004 TEUs under the hatches and
8,208 TEUs on deck. This capacity is
still a theoretical number of boxes, but
the ships have the possibility to take
that many containers. The new figure
raises the World record by some 700
TEUs.
The E-class now consists of six vessels
(Emma, Estelle, Eleonora, Evelyn,
Ebba and Elly). Another two units is
under construction at Odense Steel
Shipyard.
Piracy attacks Goes uP aGain
According to the International Maritime
Bureau, robbery and piracy attacks
against vessels went up 14 per cent in
the first nine months of 2007, compared
to the same period last year. The
figures show that 198 attacks have been
reported worldwide so far this year.

J. Lauritzen orders
seven more ships

been in the Far East to order more tonnage.
At the South Korean shipbuilder
Hyundai Heavy Industries, Lauritzen Bulker
has exercised an option for a further two
cape-size units in the new 180,000 DWT
segment for delivery in 2011.
After this pair, the renewal programme
consists of 35 ships of which 18 will be
owned. At the South Korean shipyard
STX, in Ulsan Lauritzen Kosan has purchased
three more of the ten sister ships on
order (The Isabella Kosan-type). After the
SSG-tallinn. On 12 October, the Estonian
Border Guard Aviation Group inaugurated
its new hangar facilities at Tallinn
Airport. At the same time, the newly purchased
helicopter, an Agusta Westland 139,
was presented. This is the first Estonian
purchase of a new helicopter, and the price
tag was EUR 9.5 million.
The helicopter is equipped with all necessary
equipment for Search and Rescue,
SAR, operations. Further training of the
crews will cut the time from alarm to takeoff
to 15 minutes also at night.
From the end of the year, Estonia will
have two helicopters for SAR operations,
purchase, Lauritzen Kosan will own seven
of the 10 units.
The remaining three will still be owned
by partners and sail with commercial management
provided by Lauritzen Kosan.
Finally, Lauritzen Tankers has ordered a
further two product carriers from Guangshou
Shipyard International for delivery in
2011.
The portfolio of MR tankers will then
consist of eight ships. In total, J. Lauritzen
has 56 owned ships on order and another
16, which partners will deliver to the fleet.
Estonia strengthens SAR operations
SSG-åbo. Rettig Group Ltd Bore has signed
an agreement to acquire of the Dutch drycargo
vessels Transitorius and Merwedelta,
built in 2000 and 2001 respectively.
The sister ships have a deadweitght of 4 951
tons and will be handed over to their new
owner in October-November.
They will sail under the Finnish flag

Augusta Westland 139.
In September, next year, the Border Guard
will take delivery of a new Augusta Westland
139 helicopter to replace the slower
MI-8.
Møkster forMs underwater new exPertise Simon Møkster Shipping has joined
forces with underwater specialist Riise Underwater Engineering for new construction
projects around two diving vessels on order at the Westcon yard in Norway for delivery
in 2009. The price of the two vessels is NOK 700 million. The vessels are equipped with
large ROVs (remotely operated vehicle) designed and built by Kystdesign in Haugesund.
Bore acquiers two dry-cargo vessels
under their new names Fingard and Svegard.
The new vessels will be employed in
Bore’s business area Contracts of Affreightment
(CoA).
“This is a renewal of the fleet, which
means that we are going to sell some older
units”, says Exec. VP CoA Jhonny Husell
at Bore’s office in Mariehamn to SSG.
