► Priscilla
When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley at a party,
the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar
becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a
thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a gentle best friend. Through
Priscilla’s eyes, Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American
myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage,
from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland,
in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy,
and fame. Priscilla is both written and directed by acclaimed
American filmmaker Sofia Coppola, director of the movies The
Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, Somewhere,
The Bling Ring, The Beguiled, and On the Rocks.
► What Happens Later - Directed by Meg Ryan
Two ex lovers, Bill (David Duchovny) and Willa (Meg Ryan)
get snowed in at a regional airport overnight. Indefinitely
delayed, Willa, a magical thinker, and Bill, a catastrophic one, find
themselves just as attracted to and annoyed by one another as they
did decades earlier. But as they unpack the riddle of their mutual
past and compare their lives to the dreams they once shared, they
begin to wonder if their reunion is mere coincidence, or something
more enchanted. What Happens Later is directed by American
actress turned filmmaker Meg Ryan, making her second feature
film after directing Ithaca (2015) previously.
